Finished a dress

I finished this jumper dress today! I made it with lots of room for a growing belly. The bodice is lined with natural muslin. This was a fun project, and I tried a new technique, French seams.

French seams were actually very easy to do, and while my side seams are not perfect, I love the smooth finish underneath! Will definitely be using this method again in the future, since I don't have a Serger to finish the edges.

Roomy patch-pockets.

My girls' handiwork

Jessica (10) and Jillian (8) handstitched these lovely napkins for our table. Aren't they sweet?

The girls have been sewing for a couple years now, and we encourage such a useful hobby. Think how many paper napkins we won't have to buy (and then send to the landfill)!

These match the apples in my kitchen, and look very nice on our table.

Finished apron

I really love sewing, and I really love aprons, so this was a fun project for me! Best of all, I was making it for a dear friend's birthday present, so it was all the more a pleasure.

The pattern is a McCall's. I was going to make the frilly view B, but wasn't sure she would like it. I settled on view C, but added some lace to make it feminine, just right for my friend.

I used fabric that is a bit heavy, but not as heavy as denim. Perfect for a sturdy apron!

This was my first attempt to make bias tape, and - wow - that is a lot of folding and pressing! It was so worth it. I am really pleased with the nice finished edges. But I'm seriously thinking of buying a bias tape maker, folks.

The lace was super-easy to add in. I like this apron so much, I'm thinking of making one for myself.

...After the bias tape maker arrives. ;o)

My Brother and I

We've been spending some quality time together recently. We love to work on projects together, and with his hard work and my brains, we get a lot accomplished!

My time spent with my Brother is always a pleasure. When other duties call me away, it is with reluctance that I leave, but I always look forward to seeing him again.

I always thought he probably enjoyed spending time with me, too, but I think I offended him the other day. We were at work again, making some things for the church, when he just jumped over and bit me!

I sat there, not a little stunned, and stared at my wounded finger. This had never happened before! He didn't say anything, but just sat there.

My husband heard me yell, and rushed to get some first aid items...but first we had to take pictures. My finger didn't hurt much (it was numb), but 1/3 of the needle had broken off in my nail bed. It was an astonishing sight to see! Should I post one of the pictures? Nah, better not.

My Brother still has not apologized, nor explained what I did to merit such treatment. But in the spirit of Christian love, I've already forgiven him.

Post Script: I weighed in my mind whether or not to post a bloody picture, but since this one has just an itty-bitty bit of blood, and since Mom and Nina asked, I'll post it.

Warning: If you are a little squeamish, just don't scroll down. But I don't think it's that bad.
